B7559001 OBERKAMPFPrint"The eagle and the butterfly, symbols of power under Napoleon" exhibition organised by the Paris museum of Decorative Arts in 2008, presented a thousand marvels from the Empire era, particularly printed materials. Seduced by so many beauties, we rediscovered the "Pompeian motifs" cloth in our fund of archives. Based on a drawing by Jean-Baptiste Huet, and printed around 1808 at our Oberkampf factory located in Jouy-en-Josas, it bears witness to the love for Antiquity at the time. This document was purchased by Braquenié in 1845 when the Oberkampf factory stopped operating. The motif of medallions and cartridges on a graphic last process plate is magnified and becomes part of both a conventional and very contemporary décor.
