Large-scale outline paintings of stylised leaves printed on linen-union. Savernake in Wiltshire is probably the oldest forest in southern England. It is referred to as “Safernoc” in a Saxon charter of King Athelstan in 934 AD and was later a popular hunting ground for Henry VIII. In the 1740s, Lancelot 'Capability' Brown planted an avenue of beech trees which, at 3.9 miles, remains the longest in Britain.
